ORGANIC COTTON
Cotton is a plant fiber, 100% natural. It is the most cultivated and used natural fiber in the world.
Organic cotton cultivation still remains very marginal, with only 1% of cultivated areas, mainly in India.
Yields per hectare are low with around 375 kg of fiber per hectare compared to more than double in conventional agriculture, hence the significant difference between organic cotton clothing and conventional cotton clothing.
This natural fiber is widely acclaimed for versatility, it is an ideal fiber for Daily use and can withstand frequent washing without quickly deteriorating.
Cotton fiber is a fiber hypoallergenic with a very good breathability, air can circulate without hindrance, this breathability helps regulate body temperature and wick away moisture. Thanks to its structure, body humidity is very quickly absorbed.
IMPROVE SUSTAINABILITY
The best thing to do to reduce the environmental footprint of cotton clothing is to improve its durability but also to think about its end of life.
To achieve this, we chose to:
- Favoring organic crops, not using pesticides and herbicides in the cultivation of organic cotton, ensures that soil biomass is not destroyed.
- Use elastane-free fabrics to avoid mixing synthetic material with our natural organic cotton fiber to improve its recyclability.
- Favor ecological fiber processing processes. Particularly during dyeing and finishing. This is the case of our denim fabric through the use of chitosan for dyeing and ozone for washing.
- Favor heavy weight canvases to improve their longevity.
- Choose buttons and rivets designed using sustainable processes. This is the case for our range of brass buttons and rivets.
- Favor factories where the energy footprint is as low as possible.
OUR DENIM CANVAS
To enhance this ideal cut, we chose a beautiful rustic canvas in the old way, a canvas in 100% organic cotton of 12.5Oz subtly aged for more authenticity, designed by the denim specialist, CANDIANI.
Oz or ounce is the unit of measurement for the weight of canvases, one ounce is 28.35 g/m², here, the weight of our canvas is therefore 350g/m². It is the best compromise for making durable and comfortable jeans, to be worn all year round.
For the pocket bags, we chose a beautiful canvas with character, very robust and thick, to stand the test of time. This painting is a magnificent chambray Japanese in 100% organic cotton of 210g/m², designed by the chambray specialist, MARUWA.
OUR DENIM WEAVER
CANDIANI is an Italian family business founded in 1936 by Luigi CANDIANI and weaver of denim fabrics.
From the raw cotton bale to the refined canvas, 100% of the stages are exclusively carried out in Italy.
The CANDIANI factories are undoubtedly among the most environmentally friendly in the global textile industry and demonstrate an unwavering commitment to the environment.
Owner of its own spinning mills, dyeing and finishing workshops, CANDIANI is able to ensure traceability and a transparency total of its supplies.
For ennoblement CANDIANI uses patented technology KITOTEX®, an ecological and biodegradable alternative as a sizing agent, chitosan. To find out more about KITOTEX® technology and the harm of PVA to the environment, click here.
CANDIANI is certified GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standards) and ISO9001 but that's not all, to find out more about the labels it's here and there.
A TIMELESS CUT REVISITED
Tired of the rough cuts available on the market, we wanted to design our own ideal cut, an iconic and timeless straight cut, slightly adjusted for more modernity.
Working on a rigid canvas is not easy; rigor is required to have flawless measurement accuracy. We therefore reviewed all the measures to ensure they fit correctly and anticipate the movement of the canvas during sewing but also the shrinkage after finishing to find the ideal pattern for each size.
It's now done and after multiple fittings on different body types and more than 24 months of hard work, our fitted straight cut is now available.
